SaturdayStitches: Learning curve

Quilting is one of those skills I've yet to acquire. But I'm working on it, people. This fall and winter my mom and I are going to hold a series of quilting weekends in which she will share her knowledge of what it takes.

I have all of the tools, thanks to my grandmother, so it's just a matter of jumping in. My mom cautions that I should start with something small and easy, but isn't fun to look at all of the pretty, modern quilts out there? Especially the ones chock full of triangles? You can't not love triangle quilts.

Felt is one of my favorite materials to use. It's forgiving and cute, and fairly inexpensive. And after all, good design is not only seen, it's felt. Oh gosh. Sorry, I couldn't resist.

WhichOneWednesday: One-day sewing project

I determined to get my sewing machine out on Saturday and whip up a quick project. I haven't used it since I spent way too long several weeks making my owl Halloween costume this fall.

So here are the two projects I'm deciding between.

This vintage smock.



Or this tote bag.
I'm kind of a newbie to following patterns and sewing in general, so which do you think would be easier? And which do you think is cuter?

SaturdayStitches: Easy DIY felt stockings

It's Christmas crunch time, so here's a suggestion for some stockings that took less than a half-hour apiece to make and cost less than $5 total.



What you need

• Felt (probably at least two colors)
• Scissors
• Sewing machine
• Embroidery thread
• Craft poms

Using two sheets of felt on top of each other, cut out your desired stocking size.



Using the large zig-zag stitch on your sewing machine, sew the two pieces together. (Except the top of course)



Then simple adorn the stockings using your creative juices with the rest of your felt scraps and craft poms. You're done. Now someone just has to fill them.
