TuesdayTutorial: Spray paint owl

IMG_5638

I found this cookie jar sans cover several years ago at a thrift store. Don't get me wrong, I adore the kitschy, vintage colors, but after we started getting more grown-up and modern decor in our kitchen I wanted the owl to reflect that change in taste.

Enter a can of metallic spray paint and a beautiful day. Transformation complete.

This project took less than two minutes of active engagement and an hour for drying. The can of spray paint cost lest than $5.

ThriftThursday: Typewriter

Ok, so it's not Thursday anymore, but I did happen to buy this item on Thursday, so it still counts.

My best bud Cristen and I went to an antique store downtown yesterday. Whist traipsing through the basement I stumbled upon this lovely lady:

It's a Tower Capri typewriter. I don't know much about it except that it was made in Holland. I did some digging online today and really couldn't learn too much more than that about it.

All I know is I love it and it loves me.

So what if Christmas is over

We decorated our apartment for Christmas a few weeks ago. With the scurry of the season, I didn't get a chance to post the photos before Christmas, but still think it's worth the effort.

Our wondrous white tree.

Yes, that is a pickle ornament.

Cristen and I have collected vintage ornaments over the last couple of years.
I think we finally have a pretty good assortment.

We have a pretty dim living room, so we tried to come up with ways to make it brighter.
A string of lights made this punch bowl we had laying around sparkle.

Gawdy, vintage fabrics are our favorites.
My aunt Emily made this wreath before I was born.
It might be an oldie, but it's a definite goodie.

Striking gold

I stopped by the thrift store down the street to sift through the craft supplies. I didn't find much in the crafts (which is strange because I normally come away with at least one priceless item), but I did find three killer necklaces.

This one reminded me of a brooch my great-grandma gave me.
Plus, it's a really good color purple, no?

When I was 9, my Christmas list consisted
of anything with whales or dolphins on it.
Here's to my old self. Now, I'd prefer whales.

Obviously, I will wear this with my gold tuxedo.
